Low E Glass for energy efficiency

The Australian Government have initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. These include the energy loss in winter and the heat gain in summer from windows and doors. 

During the day ordinary glass allows heat to leave and enter a home or a building. Here's why Low E glass can reduce energy consumption and contribute to energy efficiency.

what is low e glass?


Low E means that the glass has low emissions. It has a microscopically thin, transparent metal coating that reflects long-wave infrared energy or heat. This reduces the rate that heat enters or leaves a home or a building.

what are the advantages of low e glass?


The Low E coating reflects heat so it helps a home or building stay cooler in summer and warmer in winter. There is a saving on energy bills.

Low E glass can reduce the amount of heat that is conducted through the glass by around 30% compared to ordinary glass. It is available in clear, toned and obscure glass, or incorporated in a laminated glass. The most favourable solution combines Low E glass with double glazing. Compared to standard 3mm glass, using Low E coating and a suitable frame can stop up to 70% of heat loss and 77% of heat gain. 

It improves thermal efficiency by cutting glare, this helps protect against UV fading of any nearby furniture.

It makes a home or building more comfortable, light filled and secure. The toughened option rather than standard window glass is better for safety and security. Laminate Low E glass has an integral interlay which provides superior sound insulation. Low E glass allows natural light through without radiant heat. This maximises light and energy efficiency.

It requires no special cleaning.

It improves U-value and SHGC (solar heat gain coefficient). It is more energy efficient.
